Submit Your Story!
Writer's Guidelines
The articles and stories found in
townies are mostly
written by freelance writers, like you!
townies is accepting story
submissions about the people and places of Sault Ste. Marie and
surrounding area. On the first page of your submission please
include your: • NAME
• ADDRESS
• EMAIL
• DAYTIME PHONE NUMBER
• STORY WORD COUNT
750 WORDS OR LESS: All
stories should be typed double space in Microsoft Word format and
emailed to stories@townies.ca as soon as they are completed. The
sooner we get them the sooner they can be proofed and possibly slotted into
an upcoming issue.
PHOTOS: We at townies respect that original photographs are
very important to their owners; therefore, when photos are
submitted we aim to
have them scanned and returned as safely and quickly we can. We can use
copies of high quality colour prints and “original” black and
white photos. Each photo should have the name, address and phone
number of the owner on the back. Do not write on the back of a
photograph; use a "sticky note". Also try to put the photo in an envelope for protection, labelled with the contents, your name, and particulars. Please do not submit photos that are copyrighted unless you are the copyright owner or know that the owner is willing to have the photo published. Contact us in advance for arrangements in dropping off or picking up photographs.
PAYMENT: Due to our current budget limitations we are unable to make monetary payment for submitted stories (we do hope to change this in the future). If you submit a story or photo
and it becomes published in the
magazine you will receive at a minimum a complimentary copy of the magazine your story appears in. Regular writers will receive a complimentary six issue subscription. Due to our limited amount of space and our publication schedule there are no guarantees that any submitted story or photograph will be published.
Townies' editors and management reserve the right to negotiate payment with writers individually.
DEADLINES:
These will be set and announced by the editors.
BUT I CAN'T WAIT TO TELL MY STORY!! : If you fall into this category you may also take a look at our forums on this website to get yourself published quickly. We have a forum called "More of Your Stories", a place to tell others your story about local people (yourself included), places, or events. Or you might just want to share some of your personal thoughts about a story you read in the magazine. You can do that in "The Rest of the Story" forum.
Sorry, there is no way we can provide an automatic payment for anything dropped on our forum; therefore, you do so freely without expectation of payment.
