Why a T-Bucket?

By Carol Zarudenec Smith

Ken Watson’s appreciation of the t-bucket began when he started reading hot rod magazines in high school. He recalls that he particularly loved Norm Grabowski and Ed Roth’s t-buckets.

In 1974, he bought a body and frame from Performance Improvements. From that his vehicle was comprised from a number of contributors. A 1949 Chevy donated the front spindles. The rear axle came from a 1957 Chevy while a ‘65 Mustang contributed the steering box and shifter. Horsepower is provided by a ‘69, 327/425 small block Chevy. Of course many other parts were ordered out of town to complete his project.

The trailer that he tows behind his t-bucket was a gift from his brother and comes in very handy.
In 1978, a family road trip was taken to Champion, Michigan to have a candy apple red paint job done. The vibrant red colour is still mint today.

Mel at Supreme Upholstery did both the roof and interior for him. His expertise is evident in the end result. The roof sports a maple leaf, a sign that he is proud to be Canadian.

Ken has met many great people over the years and continues to have good times as he enjoys his hot rod. Owning it for 33 years, he wants to thank family and friends for all their help and also for providing many, wonderful memories. His ongoing hobby has truly bonded he and his son together with their mutual love of cars.
